VISUELL has developed the concept and design of the project documentation for the Stuttgart Housing and Urban Development Company mbH (SWSG) for the SWSG_EQ12. The publication demonstrates how SWSG can use this modular urban development concept to deliver affordable housing more quickly, whilst combining sustainability, quality and urban planning standards. It is aimed at politicians, local authorities, the housing sector, architects, town planners, business partners and the media.
The initial concept has been developed into an editorial design with a clear aesthetic approach that conveys the technical depth of the project. The brochure’s square format formally echoes the project’s geometric clarity. Rather than illustrating the building block, it translates it – through its format, grid, page layout and material concept – into a calm editorial design that brings together plans, graphics, photographs and text. Generous chapter openings, uncluttered text pages and neatly presented plans guide the reader through the topics.
The production consistently upholds the project’s standards. We opted for a Swiss-style brochure with a fold-out cover and a slipcase. When opened, the cover displays the locations of the urban building blocks in Stuttgart, thereby expanding the project documentation to include their spatial context. The defined shade of green from the project logo shapes the chapter structure and, combined with the selected papers from the Gmund Handmade Paper Mill, creates a calm, high-quality overall look. White print on green and the embossing on the slipcase lend the publication a subtle finish that suits the project’s matter-of-fact character.
VISUELL is supporting the project right through to the end of production. This includes prototypes, fine typography, image editing, layout preparation, print data, coordination with the print shop and on-site print approval. We put our commitment to sustainable print production into practice at a local print shop using Cradle to Cradle®- and FSC-certified papers. The combination of craftsmanship and material quality results in project documentation that provides a technical explanation of the SWSG_EQ12 and visually demonstrates SWSG’s quality standards in the design.
