For the Linden Museum, Staatliches Museum für Völkerkunde in Stuttgart, VISUELL is working closely with the museum team to develop the design of a children’s exhibition that will be integrated into the permanent exhibition with the help of a stamp search and an audio guide. The project is a milestone and expands the offer for children. It represents a child-friendly fusion of education and entertainment and at the same time addresses the pressing issues of our time. The exhibition is part of the Taking Care project, which is funded by the European Union as part of the Creative Europe programme. In this context, the connection between ethnological collections and the pressing issues of climate change and the Anthropocene will be explored and the problems of post-colonialism highlighted. “Spurensuche, tierische Abenteuer im Linden-Museum”, can be experienced from September 2023 to Juni 2024.
Integrating the children’s exhibition into the existing permanent exhibition is a particular challenge. The aim is to take children on an exciting journey into the animal world and convey the stories behind the exhibits. To this end, we are developing an exciting stamp rally in which the children get to know 19 animal objects in the permanent exhibition and their stories via an audio guide. Large-format illustrations by illustrator Promina Shrestha at the individual stamp stations lend these stories a visual dimension. The guidance system we developed through the permanent exhibition guides young visitors to the exhibits and creates a playful connection between them. We attach great importance to a child-friendly design and have carefully considered the viewing and reach heights, used texts in simple language and created a pictorial guidance system. Each of the 18 animal objects is highlighted by bold colours and individual patterns, and the alpine glider Albi guides the children through the exhibition. In another room with a painting and reading corner, the 19 illustrations, pictures and texts from the youth club and the mosaic workshop are on display once again. The central role of storytelling, the playful design and gamification as well as the use of sustainable materials make this exhibition contemporary and appealing to young visitors.
VISUELL is not only responsible for the design of the signage system, communication media, stamp booklet, colouring book, exhibition furniture and stamp stations, but is also responsible for the production, the spatial concept and the coordination of the installation. With our long-standing network of craftsmen and service providers, we successfully realise the implementation.

“The exhibition has already been a great success for the Linden Museum shortly after opening. Thanks to the very professional, pleasant and, above all, creative collaboration with VISUELL, we have created a fantastic exhibition for our young visitors with minimal resources.”
