VISUELL is working closely with the museum team to develop the design of a children’s exhibition for the Linden Museum, State Museum of Ethnology in Stuttgart, VISUELL is working closely with the museum team to develop the design of a children’s exhibition, which will be integrated into the permanent exhibition with the help of a stamp hunt and an audio guide. The project is a milestone and expands the range of activities on offer for children. It represents a child-friendly fusion of education and entertainment whilst addressing the pressing issues of our time. The exhibition is part of the Taking Care project, which is funded by the European Union as part of the Creative Europe programme. In this context, the exhibition explores the connection between ethnological collections and the pressing issues of climate change and the Anthropocene, whilst also shedding light on issues of post-colonialism. Searching for Traces: Animal Adventures at the Linden-Museum runs from September 2023 to June 2024.
Integrating the children’s exhibition into the existing permanent exhibition is a particular challenge. The aim is to take children on an exciting journey into the animal world whilst conveying the stories behind the exhibits. To this end, we are developing an exciting stamp rally in which children discover 19 animal objects in the permanent exhibition and their stories via an audio guide. Large-scale illustrations by the illustrator Promina Shrestha at the individual stamp stations lend these stories a visual dimension. The wayfinding system we have developed for the permanent exhibition guides young visitors to the exhibits and creates a playful connection between them. We place great emphasis on child-friendly design and have carefully considered viewing and reaching heights, used simple language in the texts, and created a pictorial guidance system. Each of the 18 animal objects is highlighted by bold colours and unique patterns, and the Alpine swift Albi guides the children through the exhibition. In another room with a painting and reading corner, the 19 illustrations, pictures and texts from the youth club and the Mosaic Club are on display once again. The central role of storytelling, the playful design and gamification, as well as the use of sustainable materials, make this exhibition contemporary and appealing to young visitors.
VISUELL is not only responsible for the design of the wayfinding system, communication media, stamp book, colouring book, exhibition furniture and stamp stations, but is also in charge of production, the spatial concept and the coordination of the installation. With our long-standing network of tradespeople and service providers, we successfully bring the project to fruition.

“The exhibition has been a huge success for the Linden-Museum almost immediately after opening. Thanks to the highly professional, pleasant and, above all, creative collaboration with VISUELL, we have created a fantastic exhibition for our young visitors with minimal use of resources.”
