VISUELL is creating a permanent exhibition in the public space in the town hall courtyard in Ludwigsburg. At the opening on 11 June 2026, the comprehensively redesigned square will be named the ‘Garden of Encounter’. The exhibition area builds on the site formerly known as the ‘Burkinabe Village’ and explores the theme of climate partnerships from fresh creative and technical perspectives.
The City of Ludwigsburg’s climate partnerships with Kongoussi in Burkina Faso (Africa) and Ambato in Ecuador (South America) form part of the local authority’s development cooperation programme. For this content, VISUELL has designed and realised a physical exhibition system comprising Corten steel stelae, interchangeable graphic panels, texts, infographics and photographs. It presents Ludwigsburg, Kongoussi and Ambato as equals and on an equal footing, and makes the climate partnerships accessible to the public. The exhibition is aimed at a diverse audience and remains freely accessible.
With our concept, we organise the content into three stations. An entrance stele introduces the theme and, via a QR code, links to further information online. Following this, three further steles present Ludwigsburg, Kongoussi and Ambato side by side in a comparable manner, using texts and infographics. On the wall, three larger columns display a photo gallery featuring projects from the participating countries. The exhibition does not follow a fixed route. Visitors can approach all stations from different directions and explore each level individually.
Our design focuses on a clear information architecture, precise typography and accessible readability. Light-coloured text on a dark background, defined reading heights and strong contrasts make the information levels easy to grasp at a glance. The colour scheme incorporates warm, earthy tones and unites graphics, materials and the surroundings to create a calm aesthetic.
The steles are made of Corten steel, a material that changes as a result of weathering. This means the object itself reveals how climate, time and the environment affect its surface. At the same time, it meets the requirements for robustness, low maintenance and long-term outdoor use. VISUELL designs the graphic panels with UV protection and anti-graffiti coating. When updates are required, the graphic panels can be easily replaced whilst the structure remains intact. This extends the system’s service life, reduces future material and production costs, and ensures the exhibition’s content remains up to date.
