VISUELL is developing an exhibition for the Stuttgart Housing and Urban Development Company (SWSG), for the SWSG’s own mobile ‘Showbox’, which rethinks construction site communication and brings it directly to the heart of the action. A converted standard container with two glass fronts becomes a compact exhibition space that showcases its contents to the outside world. It informs local residents about current construction projects, special features and neighbourhood developments, and reaches interested passers-by or, at internal events, specialist audiences as well.
For the exhibition, VISUELL has developed a modular design system that combines information, scenography and media technology, and can be adapted in terms of content to the respective neighbourhoods. Two project zones structure the container. A neutral central zone integrates general information about the company as well as overarching content. Colours, films and typography guide the eye, separate the themes from one another and provide orientation within the limited space. Using formwork panels, honeycomb panels, semi-transparent plans and visible, colour-coordinated adhesive tapes, the design draws on the materiality and aesthetics of the construction process without appearing rough.
VISUELL works with existing materials, supplementing them with media such as front-facing films, monitors, light boxes and table-top models. Plans, images and videos condense the complex content of two projects. The moving images, in particular, attract attention even as passers-by walk by. The evening lighting draws the eye to the Showbox and emphasises its showcase character.
VISUELL has designed a mobile communication format for construction projects for the Showbox: efficient, reusable, easy to understand and impactful enough to arouse curiosity even within a space of just a few square metres.
