How much potential for the future lies in existing housing stock? “More life in your own home – possibilities for a home with a future” answers this question not just in theory. The team at VISUELL brings this topic to life in a tangible way. As part of the strategy dialogue “Affordable Housing and Innovative Construction”, VISUELL is developing and implementing a modular travelling exhibition for the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Regional Development and Housing. The project will tour Baden-Württemberg for at least a year, stopping off in local communities, public institutions, at trade fairs and events.
The focus is on detached houses as a resource for the future. The exhibition demonstrates in concrete terms how the conversion, extension and further development of new living space come about, and how state funding, building regulations and advice support this process. The approach deliberately begins on a personal level: stories of living in the region open up the space and build trust. Only then does the technical exploration follow.
Thanks to its modular system, the travelling exhibition can be flexibly adapted to different spatial conditions. Depending on the location, it covers an area of around 10 to 60 square metres. The exhibition vehicle, a converted Sprinter, contains another version of the modular exhibition with an area of around 50 square metres. Visitors move in free flow through clearly structured thematic islands. Precise headlines provide orientation, whilst short texts summarise the content. The drawer models of different house types make living space potential vividly tangible. A ‘question wall’ brings together typical scenarios relating to conversion, renovation and financing. Colour codes and numbers direct visitors to the relevant information on building technology, sustainability, building law and funding. This allows visitors to find out more without prior knowledge and without barriers. A feedback box allows visitors to submit questions and suggestions, which will be incorporated into further development.
In terms of design, VISUELL combines the state’s new corporate design with the colour scheme of the strategy dialogue, creating a distinctive look with high recognition value. High-quality wood, bold, wide rubber bands in the state’s yellow colour and a muted sage green characterise the exhibition and the vehicle. Digital media provide selective support, giving priority to analogue and tactile elements. The result is a format that organises complex content, takes people seriously and demonstrates just how much potential for the future already lies within the home.

“The ‘More Life in Your Home’ project is designed to provide a positive impetus. Rather than focusing on vacancy and overwhelming challenges, it invites you to rediscover the hidden potential of detached houses – with an appreciation for what already exists and the courage to develop it further. Let yourself be inspired!”

Minister for Regional Development and Housing of the State of Baden-Württemberg
