To mark the 40th anniversary of this international motorsport event, VISUELL is creating an exhibition in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. Spanning 760 square metres, the exhibition will create a setting that combines energy, speed and nostalgia. Visitors can experience the exhibition in the 90 minutes before the race starts and during the 40-minute break.
The concept is based on the review and analysis of historical programmes, films, photos and archive research. From key concepts such as action, adrenaline and speed, we derive a rough look and feel that is reflected in an exciting and authentic way throughout the exhibition design.
At the centre, we have placed a three-part scaffolding system supporting banners, wooden elements and information panels. From there, coloured floor markings lead to three islands where nine historic machines are displayed on pallets at varying heights. Carefully directed lighting draws the eye to the exhibits, whilst the open layout allows for an exploratory tour. We complement the exhibition with helmets, jerseys, tyres and photographs. We also incorporate a timeline featuring striking quotes. Projections of historical footage run on a continuous loop, accompanied by engine noises, applause and cheering. This creates an atmospheric connection between the exhibition and the race hall.
The design is based on the association’s visual identity: bright yellow, a sans-serif corporate typeface in both fill and outline styles, complemented by anthracite and beige. The iconic double arrow symbolises speed and direction. High colour contrasts and clear typography ensure accessibility. To allow visitors to take a memento home with them, we have compiled the milestones in a booklet in DIN A6 format made from uncoated paper, supplementing it with photos, quotes and background information.
For the opening, we are setting up an area for the VIP reception and speeches. The highlight of the day will be the presence of former winners of the motorsport event. They will share stories, sign autographs and, in conversation with visitors, offer insights that bring the 40-year history to life.
