To mark the 75th anniversary of the North Rhine-Westphalian Constitution, VISUELL has designed and produced a travelling exhibition on behalf of the Haus der Geschichte North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation. It will be shown at three venues: in the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf, at the State’s Representative Office to the Federal Government in Berlin, and at the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe in Münster.
The exhibition raises public awareness of the state constitution and illustrates its development since 1950. It is aimed at a broad audience and shows how social changes have been incorporated into the constitution.
Seven thematic sections address various constitutional amendments, ranging from education and data protection to the environment and co-determination. A facsimile of the first constitution introduces the exhibition. Arranged chronologically and marked with year indicators, it creates a logical journey through 75 years of state history.
The design combines bold colours with clear typography and large-format image collages. Moving image displays, audio stations and hands-on activities invite visitors to get involved. Visitors collect stickers, mark changes in a personal anniversary copy of the state constitution and discover stories and voices from past decades at interactive stations.
The structure is made of powder-coated metal with an integrated lighting system. It has a modular design and is adapted to the different spatial conditions of the three exhibition venues. All technical components comply with current safety and testing standards. Accessible typography, sloped media stations and sufficient passage widths ensure accessibility for all.
VISUELL is responsible for the creative concept, communication design, media production, programming of the stations and project management. The exhibition was developed in close collaboration with the Foundation and conveys historical facts in a concise, vivid and interactive manner. In this way, 75 years of constitutional history become a living experience.
