40 Years of VISUELL

Forty years of VISUELL – that calls for a celebration! And it’s to be held right where ideas are conceived, designs created and discussions held every day: in the heart of Stuttgart, in the courtyard behind our studio. On 18 June 2026, Laureen and Luis Seider, Alexander Knaus and Horst Jäkel will personally welcome a good 100 invited guests to a champagne reception. Clients and long-standing colleagues will be in attendance. It’s a warm evening, the drinks are cold, and the courtyard is the perfect setting for this celebration.
Laureen and Luis kick off the evening with a brief look back. Four decades cannot be summed up in just a few minutes. They talk about experiences from which something new continually emerges. Our studio often dares to take the next step even when it doesn’t yet seem comfortable. What remains is a curiosity about a subject, an exchange that transcends disciplinary boundaries, and the joy of working together.
They then invite Alexander Knaus and Horst Jäkel onto the stage. The two founded VISUELL in 1986 and have shaped the studio over the decades. Laureen and Luis thank them with flowers, whilst the guests show their appreciation with a warm round of applause.

Good work stands out
Today, VISUELL operates in three areas: architecture, scenography and communication design. Current projects range from permanent and travelling exhibitions, interventions and brand identities to film and digital applications. These include work for Stripemind, Straßen.NRW, the Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg, the Haus der Geschichte Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia and the Ministry for Regional Development and Housing Baden-Württemberg.
The awards going to several of these projects at once receive particularly loud applause. For example, the Glems Fruit Tree Museum wins gold at the FOCUS OPEN 2024 and the German Design Award 2026. The installation “Anti Anti 2.0” at the Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg has been awarded silver at FOCUS OPEN 2026. Gold goes to the travelling exhibition “More Life in Your Own Home”, which was commissioned by the Ministry for Regional Development and Housing Baden-Württemberg. Three exhibitions, three very different themes and three distinct creative responses. A good reason to raise a glass once more.  

Two ideas to get you thinking
Ivonne Veith from Synthetic Styles, The AI Collective demonstrates how classical photography, traditional design techniques and artificial intelligence intertwine. In doing so, AI neither supplants the idea nor the craftsmanship. It expands the creative process and opens up new visual worlds.
Lewin Fricke from Triqbriq AG discusses circular timber construction and a building method in which components retain their value. The company manufactures solid timber building blocks from industrial timber and storm-damaged timber. Buildings can be erected using these, dismantled again and rebuilt using the recovered components. Only what is actually damaged is replaced. An Edeka supermarket in Braunschweig demonstrates that this principle already works on a large scale.  

A summer evening to remember
The summer warmth still lingers in the air, made pleasant by a light breeze. Over vegan burgers, potato wedges, cool drinks and music, new groups of people are constantly forming. People meet up again, get to know one another, change tables or linger longer than planned. There’s plenty of chatting and even more laughter. Nobody’s in a hurry. The back courtyard is full, but never cramped. An evening that shows just how closely work, friendship and celebrating together are intertwined at VISUELL.
Forty years bring experience. Staying adaptable keeps it alive and shapes the future.
